On my work desk this week is the first card I've had chance to make in ages and it was created using alcohol inks and a technique I learnt from a recent workshop run by the excellent Hels Sheridan at the awesome Stamp Attic.
I had a few alcohol inks but never knew what to do with them...after a day up to my elbows in ink I'm not short of ideas now.
The agate technique is lush and I used the gold mixative to give a wonderful splurgy effect across the background.
The stamp set is of course by Tim Holtz...and I love it.

Carmen #109
love that black ink against the delicate background - looks wonderful...and I'm sure Hels was a great teacher. I'm an alcohol ink addict! Thanks so much for calling by - enjoy your week, Sarah.
ReplyDeleteOh yes forgot to say I will have some more of these AO stamped images and alcohol inks on my blog Monday - you might like them and get yours out! Sarah.
ReplyDeleteSpounds like you had a eurika moment with the inks. the back ground look great
ReplyDeletethanks for popping by, not sure where you saw the bunting coz there isn't any. If it is the union jack shapes on my messy desk they are actually moustaches (?????) from a street party in Winchester, I thought they were rather random which is why I brought some home and they will go on my LO problbly sometime before the next diamond jubilee !!!!
janet #53
I love this technique,I also like your colour combo...i have that stamp and I LOVE it!! have a good week.
ReplyDeleteYou've created a beautiful effect with the AIs and butterflies. Take a look at my post of a couple of weeks ago and have a go blasting the AIs with an air can. Great effects and good fun too.

ReplyDeleteI love that background, I dont know how to make it. Is there a tutorial anywhere? what a nice husband you have! Thanks for visiting my blog. Barb
ReplyDeleteSounds like the course was a good kick starter for using your alcohol inks to their full potential!! It was successful as your butterfly work is wonderful!! And yes, the nakey lady is from Doone, whose viewpoint is wonderfully alternative - she's fab!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, LLJ #70 xx
Hi Sophie - Thanks for popping in to see me. What a lovely birthday gift. That is worth the extra year I am sure! Beautiful card. I love making mottled backgrounds with alcohol inks too. I also like making tartan with them. Its fun to find unusual colour combinations. I know that means we need more ink colours but that's just a bonus right?! :-D WOYWW Hugs from Helen 105
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!! I think alcohol ink is often underrated!
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW!
xxDaniella#106
Wow! What a gorgeous card!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the alcohol ink background. The added gold really makes a statement. I love the stamp you used too. I'm with you, have the alcohol inks but don't really know what to do with them. My backgrounds don't come out as nicely ordered as yours did. Practice, I suppose!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous butterfly card with the alcohol inks, Sophie. Very pretty colour combinations too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comment on my blog, and I'm glad you like my latest zentangle art. I've just uploaded a post about them so you can see them in more detail than on my WOYWW desk.
Happy WOYWW,
Shoshi #89
Beautiful butterfly card! I have the same or similar set (have to check and see whose they are)and love using them. Thanks for your kind comment. Hope you ran and jumped right in bed. #147
ReplyDeletewow, absolutely gorgeous card, love those butterfly stamps. I must admit to having alcohol inks and never getting them out of the cupboard, I must make myself get my old stash out and not always reach for the newest thing I buy!
ReplyDeleteno names for the raccoons yet, just mom and baby, don't want to get too attached as they should really be sent packing!
Debxx
what an awesome background! perfect for the butterflies. I just got the vagabond it's pretty cool i just have to get use to it. have a great week thanks for stopping by my desk
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely! The colors are so beautiful! Wishing you a happy one!
Hugs,

How cool about the Vagabond! Your background is indeed lush and beautiful! So is your foreground, for that matter. Have a wonderful week! Thanks for coming by to visit me! Darnell 56

Gorgeous. Lovely work. Vagabond? He's bought you a tramp?
ReplyDeleteFamfa 96
Happy belated WOYWW - and thanks for visiting me. I love that card - I have done a similar background and the gold will really shimmer. Vagabond = very generous and wonderful hubby (wish mine would buy me crafty stash - well he does, but only his credit card knows!). Ali x #54
ReplyDeleteYou have done a marvelous job in creating that card and the technique with those colors is just devine. Congrats on a good job done. I love alcohol inks.

This is beautiful! I love the color of the background. I need to use my inks more...I need some more classes. I love Tim Holtz stamps too!
ReplyDeleteOoh a vagabond, lucky you! Fab card too. Sorry I'm a day late in getting round this week. Thanks for sharing your workspace!!
ReplyDeleteLisa Sparkle :)
I love those stamps and am pondering buying some. Your alcohol inks look great, found you need to have the right paper for them. The plain inks work OK on photo paper but the metallic shiny bits just wipe off!! Loft insulation aisle in B&Q for the tape btw. BJ#32
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog today. The girl on the calendar is Rosalie from the movie Twilight.
ReplyDeleteI think your card turned out beautifully. I know what you mean about having alcohol inks but not really knowing what to do with them. Although I discovered that they make fantastic wood stain! I kid you not.... I stained the little stand on my work desk to match my desk. DH could not believe I had matched the colour, stained the wood and did not need a finishing coat and it was dry in 15 minutes. A little unconventional but it worked!!
ReplyDeleteSandra @36
Wow, that card is stunning! Belated Happy WOYWW! Di xx
ReplyDeleteFab card! Also I have that TH stamp and love it! And I would also need a workshop, or something, to get some ideas how to use the alcohol inks...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week!
Tuire #14
Your Butterfly card is absolutely beautiful and I really love the colours that you’ve chosen to use.
ReplyDeleteI have Alcohol Inks in my cupboard here but I’ve not used them in ages and would need to clean about 3 inches of dust off them before I could use them. Like you, I never know what to do with them so may be a class would help me too.
Happy Crafting!

Gorgeous card Sophie. Its my dearest wish to go to at least one of Hels classes. Hugs Rita xxx 17
ReplyDeleteStunning card! Loving the ink technique x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and shows of the polished stone technique perfectly. Would love a workshop with Hels but Stamp Attic is a tad too far for me. Thanks for commenting on my WOYWW post and yes Kitty did enjoy her pork pie - until she threw it over her shoulder that is. They don't live that far from where you are, we sometimes come of the M5 at Gloucester, skirt Thornbury and stop at Almondsbury garden centre for breakfast.

Ar, lovely. And with Hels at your elbow, you can't fail but to learn how to get the most out of Alcohol. Inks. of course.
ReplyDeleteah Sophie do love the splodgy effect too with Tim's butterflies - great share thanks! Thanks so much for popping over ~ happy WOYWW! Shaz in Oz. x #8

I love butterflies, especially the black and white outlined, like your stamps, great card!!
ReplyDeleteI love that technique and really need to learn it. Wonderful card. Thanks for stopping by my blog. #92
ReplyDeleteApologies for visiting so late Sophie, but better late than never eh?
ReplyDeleteYour card is amazing...I love the colours and of course 'flutterbys' ;D
You sound very pleased to be receiving a Vagabond for your coming birthday so I can only imagine that its a good thing. I don't have one and wouldn't know what to do with one if I did.
So much to learn from the WOYWWer's gang :D
Have a great weekend ~ enjoy Neesie #7
You're in big trouble now. Alcohol inks are incredibly addictive. Try silver mixative on black glossy cardstock. So cool! (But only use a tiny bit - it goes an awful long way.)
ReplyDeletecheers,
rachel #78 (better late than never?)
Oooh! I love the card with those butterflies, but most of all I love that background inking. I wish I knew how to use alchohol inks. I haven't bought any because I haven't the foggiest what to do with them! And what is mixative, anyway?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my WOYWW post. The 'jubilee' wreath is progressing steadily, but slowly. At this rate it might just be done in time to be an 'Olympic' wreath instead... for 2016!!
Scrappydiva (aka Anthea)
PS. Sorry I'm so late doing the rounds! Life, eh?
Lovely work Sophie! I love my alcohol inks..... you're right, they're lush.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
